The facility is located in the village of Temesi, Gianyar. Opened in mid-2004 as a pilot project, now it is expanded with a new 2,400 m2 waste separation and compost area. It is expected to process a daily 50 tons of organic waste from the area of Gianyar into compost.
The project is registered for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The project will be eligible for Certified Emission Reductions of 77,000 tons CO2 over a crediting period of 10 years, which is started in 2008. The carbon credit income will be used to cover operating costs, contribute to the village of Temesi, to develop the facility and its management and to replicate the project elsewhere in Bali and Indonesia.

The theme park is a complementary project of the waste facility. It focuses on waste and climate change issues. Emphasis is on interactive presentations, hands-on experiences and demonstrating practical climate change solutions for the general population. Many interesting topics are presented, including evolving technologies for alternative renewable energy, composting methods, recycling, wastewater garden, energy reduction in Balinese households, etc.
Major funding for the waste facility and theme park was provided by Rotary Clubs in Ubud, Switzerland and Germany, Canada's International Development Research Centre, Germany's Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Government of Switzerland with additional support from USAID and the Bali Hotels Association.
